Molasses Festival

I wish I could capture all the sensory parts of this gorgeous autumn day during the Molasses Festival at Snow Camp Outdoor Theater.

The sun was shining, but there was a crisp breeze perfectly cooling the deep-reaching warmth.

There was molasses cooking by the heat of a wood fire.

And apple butter.

And live music.

I learned a little about making molasses:

Sugarcane is pressed to release the liquid.

That liquid is cooked down over high heat.

Wood being added to the fire underneath the cooking molasses.

The chlorophyll from the sugarcane is constantly skimmed off the top.

And this guy knows when it is perfectly done.

While the smaller jars of  molasses were already sold out, I came home with delicious apple cider, apple butter, and the essence of fall as part of me.

Apple butter on the left in the photo. Those remaining jars of molasses on the right? Already sold.
